The Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW) held an event on July 19, 2025, at the SLFUW headquarters, where “Seth Pirith” and the “Thun Suthraya” were chanted to invoke special blessings on the departed past Presidents and members of the SLFUW and their spouses. The President of the SLFUW, Colonel Dr. Udula Krishnaratne, warmly welcomed the Venerable Thihagoda Saradha Thero, who chanted “Seth Pirith” and the “Thun Suthraya” and all the Council members and invitees who were present. After the religious programme was completed, 40 parcels containing essential dry ration items sufficient for the day-to-day consumption of a family of four members for one week, along with monetary contributions, were given to selected needy families from the Kithulwatta area and Rodney Street in Colombo 8.
Further, in memory of all its departed past Presidents and members, the SLFUW has conducted many charitable and social upliftment programmes. After making a cash donation to the Good Way Prayer House, United Pentecostal Church, Lankaberiya, Iththakanda, the SLFUW sponsored the total cost of purchasing tables and benches for the use of 50 children who are following English lessons conducted by the Church staff. Further, the SLFUW bore the total hospital charges incurred for an urgent eye surgery which was performed at Vinseth Hospital on a 72-year-old lady who hails from a low-income family. Also, the SLFUW made a cash donation to the parents of a nine-year-old child who is suffering from leukaemia and lives in a remote area in Kurunegala. The SLFUW remains committed to continuing with its charitable and social outreach efforts, focusing on supporting needy undergraduates of state universities from rural areas, underprivileged individuals and families in need.
