The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will govern 11 local government bodies in Nuwara-Eliya District together with the Ceylon Workers' Congress (CWC), SLPP MP C. B. Rathnayake said today.

The United National Party (UNP) continued to hold power of the Colombo Municipal Council obtaining a majority of 131,353 votes with 60 council seats.The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) garnered 60,087 votes along with 23 seats.  

Joint Opposition (JO) leader Dinesh Gunawardane said today the mandate given to the Government leaders at the previous election had expired with the results of the Local Government elections.

The SLPP won the Kaduwela Municipal Council securing 26 seats with 71016 votes. 

The UNP won the Wattala-Mabole Urban Council securing 10 seats with 8767 votes. 

The SLPP secured a majority of votes for the Sri Jayawardanepura – Kotte Municipal Council securing 18 seats with 22068 votes. 

The UNP won the Haputale Pradeshiya Sabha garnering 9,746 votes and 7 seats. The SLPP has secured 8,375 votes along with 6 seats. The UPFA which secured 8,164 votes has also won 6 seats.

Based on the election results released so far, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is heading towards a victory at the Local Government election garnering 45 per cent of the majority votes.
