Japan earthquake with 7.6 magnitude leaves ’everything wobbling’ as tsunami warning issued

A massive earthquake measuring 7.6 in magnitude has struck off the north-east coast of Japan. The quake, on Monday afternoon (December 8), has prompted fears of an incoming tsunami in the Aomori district.

Local reports claim 'everything was wobbling' as the tremor was felt across Japan's main island of Honshu. Residents in the area are now being urged to evacuate and get to higher ground, the Daily Star reports.
Waves as high as three metres could hit Japan's north-eastern coast, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake struck at 11.15pm local time, with an epicentre around 44 miles off the coast of north-east Japan, at a depth of around 33 miles.

One user on X said: "That was the biggest earthquake I've ever felt. Whole house shaking. Everything still slowly wobbling even now... But all good here, thankfully. Everything still standing."
