CAA to receive expert committee report on gas explosions today

The report compiled by the four-member Committee from the University of Moratuwa on the twelve LP gas samples will be submitted to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today.

According to Prof. Shantha Walpolage from the Chemical and Process Engineering Department of Moratuwa University, the report will be submitted along with their views on the matter.  The CAA earlier obtained gas samples from six districts and directed them to laboratories.  Accordingly, 12 samples were sent to the University of Moratuwa for further research and the expert committee is expected to submit its report to the CCA today. A spate of incidents of cylinder fires and explosions have been reported from several areas in the country, raising concerns amongst people.

The issue first came into the spotlight with the fire reported in a restaurant in the Race Course building on Reid Avenue, Colombo recently consequent to a gas leak.
