Staff members, civil society activists up in arms against transfer of Badulla District Secretary

The staff of the Badulla District Secretariat, the Divisional Secretariat and representatives of civil society organizations yesterday staged a protest in front of the District Secretariat against the transfer of District Secretary Panduka Sri Prabhath Abeywardene to the Ministry of Public Administration.   

More than 500 protestors participated. They pointed out that the District Secretary Panduka Abeywardene was a popular official in the district who provided unstinted support to the area during the Ditwah cyclone disaster to uplift the affected people. They requested the government not to transfer the District Secretary who has rendered a dedicated service to the area.   

They continued the protest, shouting slogans and displaying placards for about an hour despite heavy rain.
