Man critically injured after liquor bottle shatters in fall

• The broken bottle had penetrated the man’s abdomen

An individual under the influence of alcohol sustained serious injuries when he fell on a boulder, causing a bottle of liquor hidden in his waistband to break into pieces.

He was admitted to Meegahakiula District Hospital and later transferred in critical condition to Badulla Teaching Hospital. A hospital spokesman said a piece of the broken bottle had penetrated the man’s abdomen.
The injured man is about 52 years old and a resident of Ekiriya village.

A friend who was with him admitted him to the hospital with a profusely bleeding injury.
