Earthquake in India a possibility - GSMB Geologist Nilmini Thaldena

An earthquake in India is a possibility but it is not possible to predict the date and the time, a geologist attached to Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said yesterday.  Geologist Nilmini Thaldena told Daily Mirror that an earthquake could happen in Himachal Pradesh at any time but it is not usually possible to determine the date and time.  

“Usually an earthquake could occur in locations which have never experienced prior seismic activity over extended periods. Besides Himachal Pradesh is an area where earthquakes have taken place in the recent past,” she said.   “Even Indian researchers have confirmed this situation,” she added.   A Sri Lankan  Geologist Senior Professor Athula Senaratne from the Peradeniya University recently said the earthquake which Indian geologists had predicted in the sub continent could affect  Colombo as well.
