33rd death anniversary of Vijaya Wimalaratne

The Sri Lanka Army marked the 33rd death anniversary of Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne with a wreath-laying ceremony at his statue in Kiribathgoda on August 8, 2025. The event was led by Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (West) and Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment, Major General U. K. D. D. P. Udugama, and attended by family members, senior officers, and troops of the Gajaba Regiment. Maj. Gen. Wimalaratne, then Commander of the Jaffna Security Forces, was killed in a landmine explosion at Point Araly, Kites Island, on August 8, 1992. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana.
