National tea sales average dips in February

The national tea sales average for the month of February 2023 recorded Rs.1,438.20 (US $ 3.96), which is a dip from the previous month.


The sales average in February dropped by Rs.28.56 from January 2023, where the average was Rs.1,466.76. In comparison to the February 2022 average of Rs.725.63 (US $ 3.61), a significant increase of Rs.712.57 and US $ 0.35 year-on-year (YoY) is shown.


The analysis of the elevational averages for the month of February 2023 shows that the High Grown had a sales average of Rs.1,402.55 (US $ 3.86), recording a marginal increase of Rs.7.52 month-on-month (MoM). When compared to the February 2022 average of Rs.696.48 (US $ 3.47), a significant increase of Rs.706.07 and US $ 0.39 is recorded YoY. The Medium Grown average of Rs.1,257.27 (US $ 3.46) for February 2023 recorded an increase of Rs.14.45 MoM as well. When compared to the February 2022 average of Rs.645.08 (US $ 3.21), a significant increase of Rs.612.19 and US $ 0.25 YoY is shown.

Meanwhile, the Low Grown average of Rs.1,489.99 (US $ 4.10) in February 2023 recorded a decrease of Rs.54.40 (US $ 0.15) MoM. Compared to the February 2022 average of Rs.759.45 (USD 3.78), it shows a significant increase of Rs.730.54 and US $ 0.32 YoY. All elevations record a gain during the period of January-February 2023 when compared to the corresponding period of 2022, both in Sri Lankan rupee and US dollar terms.
