Institute of Certified Management Accountants’ post-budget seminar on November 15

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) is organising a Continuing Professional Development seminar on ‘CMA Sri Lanka Budget Highlights 2024 - Analysis of Tax Proposals and Impact on Business, Economy and Society’, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., at Taj Samudra, Colombo. 
The CMA Budget Highlights seminar will bring together experts and thought leaders to provide a comprehensive analysis of the budget proposals for the year 2024 and their potential implication on the Sri Lankan economy, businesses and society, especially in times of crisis.


The welcome address and introduction will be delivered by CMA Sri Lanka Founder President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala. The keynote address on Budget 2024 will be delivered by Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena. The special address on ‘Tax Proposals 2024’ will be delivered by Inland Revenue Department Acting Commissioner General D. Upul Jayawardhana. 


The seminar will feature presentations on key topics, including ‘Budget 2023 Accountability and Transparency’ by Vertite Research Senior Research Analyst Sureni Weerathunge, ‘Tax Proposals 2024’ by Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants Tax Partner Nisthar Sulaiman, ‘Budget Proposals 2024 and Impact on Business’ by Ceylon Chamber of Commerce President and Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants Senior Partner Duminda Hulangamuwa, ‘The Economic Transformation and SOE Reforms’ by Advocata Institute CEO Dananath Fernando, ‘Economic Implications and Meeting IMF Obligations’ by Economist and World Economic Forum Expert Member Talal Rafi and ‘Earning Much-Needed Foreign Exchange By Boosting Exports’ by Brandix Managing Director Hasitha Premaratne. 


The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion and it will be moderated by CMA Sri Lanka Council Member and OPA Treasurer Ruchira Perera. The eminent panellists are DSI Group Emeritus Managing Director Dr. Kulatunga Rajapakse and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Chairman Priantha Fernando.
The seminar will conclude with expert comments delivered by CMA Sri Lanka Vice President and SAFA Past President Hennayake Bandara and the vote of thanks will be delivered by Taxation Committee Chairman and CMA Council Member P. Gajendra.
