Hemas Hospitals yesterday said it would initiate a series of expansion plans to expand its presence in Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector. Celebrating its 15-year milestone, Hemas Hospitals expressed its intention to achieve this growth primarily through acquisitions within the country. “In the next five to seven years, Hemas (Hospitals) is going to expand its services either through acquisitions or by expanding its own hospitals in Thalawathugoda and Wattala. We will expand our primary care presence via more primary care centres and virtual clinics,” said Hemas Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris, while addressing a press conference yesterday.
Plans are also underway to enter the fields of cardiology, oncology and neurology, so that a wider range of healthcare services are available to the public at affordable rates.
Among the confirmed expansions on Hemas Hospitals’ agenda is the Thalawathugoda hospital, where the number of beds will be increased from 70 to 150. Although the exact figures were not disclosed, Dr. Peiris mentioned that this endeavour would necessitate an investment of at least Rs.6 to 7 billion.
Hemas Hospitals is also in discussions with Singapore’s Alexandra Hospital to launch an ambulatory surgical centre, which will be a first for Sri Lanka. The specifics of this partnership were not shared.
Commenting on the contribution of Hemas Hospitals to Sri Lanka’s healthcare space, Dr. Peiris said the hospital remains committed to its purpose of transforming lives through connected care and innovation.
“This means transforming lives by improving health outcomes through patient-centric care, delivering connected care through a seamless integrated approach, enabling interoperability and innovation across the delivery of all our solutions,” he said.
