FWC Regional Competition held at Port City Colombo

The Fintech Association of Sri Lanka (FASL), in strategic partnership with Port City Colombo, recently hosted the Regional Competition of the FinTech World Cup (FWC) at Port City Colombo.

Organised by Trescon and powered by Ignyte, the FWC is a globally recognised platform dedicated to accelerating the growth of fintech start-ups.

Four shortlisted start-up founders presented their innovative products and services during the competition: Petula Wijesinghe from AnybanQ, Dumin Sahiet from Yenasys, Sanjeewa Pathirana from Nanosoft Global and Chameera Ranasinghe from Nextdrive.

The competition provides local innovators with a valuable opportunity to showcase their solutions on a global stage, with top finalists advancing to the Grand Finale at the Dubai FinTech Summit on May 13, 2025.

The Dubai FinTech Summit, organised by the Dubai International Financial Centre and managed by Trescon, is held under the patronage of Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

As an official Association Partner of Dubai FinTech Summit 2025, the FASL plays a pivotal role in connecting Sri Lanka’s dynamic fintech ecosystem with the global financial innovation community.

The Sri Lankan Regional Competition was further supported by the Asian FinTech Academy (also an Association Partner of Dubai FinTech Summit 2025), Tech London Advocates & Global Tech Advocates – Sri Lanka Group, Sri Lanka Chapter of the Global Academy of Finance and Management, based in Colorado, USA, HNB Investment Bank and Hilton Colombo.

This initiative highlights Sri Lanka’s most promising fintech start-ups, offering them a unique opportunity to gain global exposure, attract investment and build strategic partnerships. It also reinforces the vision of the strategic partner, Port City Colombo, to establish itself as a leading offshore financial centre and regional business hub—while playing a pivotal role in positioning Sri Lanka as a globally recognised destination for innovation and entrepreneurship.
