  • Next Digital Payments Promotion Campaign on March 22 and 23 in Nuwara Eliya

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is stepping up efforts to bring more districts into the digital economy, to reduce cash dependency and promote mobile-based transactions.

As part of this initiative, the CBSL announced it would hold its next Digital Payments Promotion Campaign on March 22 and 23, in Nuwara Eliya, introducing more businesses and consumers to cashless payment solutions.
The event, hosted at Gregory Lake car park, will feature banks, finance companies, telecom providers and MSMEs, offering hands-on registration and demonstrations of digital payment platforms.

The campaign will enable on-the-spot sign-ups for mobile payment apps and encourage the use of LANKAQR transactions, with participating vendors offering special discounts to incentivise digital adoption. The CBSL emphasises that digital payments provide a safer, more convenient and cost-effective alternative to cash, particularly for small businesses looking to expand their customer base.

CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe is expected to attend the event.

In a statement, the CBSL urges the public to take advantage of this initiative, gain personalised guidance on mobile transactions and embrace the shift towards a modernised payment ecosystem.
