Will act against dissidents critical of the party: JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) will take disciplinary action against its central committee members turned dissidents, who criticised the party at a Sugathadasa Stadium ceremony to commemorate the 22nd death anniversary of the party’s founder leader Rohana Wijeweera, a senior JVPer said yesterday.

The JVP and its dissidents held two separate events to commemorate Mr. Wijeweera’s death anniversary.

A senior JVP member said the party could not hold disciplinary inquiries against the dissidents for holding a separate commemorative event but the former central committee members could be dealt with for criticising the party.

“These members have been critical of the party in public. They have done it at the commemoration ceremony. We will send letters of warning to them. Later, we will take legal action against them,” he said. (By Kelum Bandara)
