UPFA factions clash in Matale

At least one person was hospitalised following a clash between two groups of the UPFA at Aluvihare in Matale on Saturday night. One group allegedly involved in the brawl comprised supporters of former Matale Mayor Palitha Jayasekara who is contesting the Matale Municipal Council elections on October 8, while the other group supported former Municipal Council member Roshan de Silva who is also another candidate.

De Silva contested the last Municipal Council election under the UNP and later crossed over to the UPFA. Both Jayasekara and de Siva have lodged complaints with the Matale police. (M. W. Somaratne)
