Uni. Non academics to strike tommorrow

University non-academics have decided to go ahead with a decision to hold a countrywide strike tomorrow (Wednesday) after discussions today with Higher Education Minister S.B Dissanayake to increase wages and benefits had not been successful.

Ministry sources said that Minister Dissanayake had assured a revised salary package in three weeks time but no confirmation was given on the particulars of raise in the basic salary. Matters pertaining to the unions other demands such as 25% allowance increase, pension schemes, housing loans and other matters were not taken into account at the meeting with the Ministry and unions.
