Colombo, June 12 (Daily Mirror) - Showers or thundershowers are expected at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 p.m. today (12), the Meteorology Department said.
In its weather forecast issued at 5.30 a.m., the department said showers and thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Fairly heavy rainfall above 75 mm is likely at some locations in these areas.
Several spells of showers are also expected in the Hambantota and Anuradhapura districts.
Strong winds of 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North-Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph are likely elsewhere in the country.
The public has been advised to take precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
