TELO discontent over exclusion of its members

TELO, an alliance partner of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), expressed disappointment today over the exclusion of its members in the delegations assigned for talks with the government in pursuit of a political solution.

Earlier, the party said they were unhappy over the decision by the TNA leadership not to accommodate TELO members in its delegation expected to undertake a visit to the United States (US).

Political Leader of the TELO, M.K. Sivajilingam told the Daily Mirror the party’s presidium, general council and central committee would meet in November in Trincomalee to decide its next course of action against discrimination by the TNA.

“The TNA has had a number of rounds of talks with the government. Yet, our version is not heard. We need a chance. Two of our members are in Parliament,” he said.

Mr. Sivajilingam said, “Though the TELO was a party based on Tamil nationalism some of our members believe in socialism. Yet, we are mainly for Tamil nationalism. We have had political relationships with the New Left Front of Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)
