Tax on imported dhal reduced

Special Commodity Levy on imported dhal would be reduced by 17 rupees per kilo with effect from midnight today, the Ministry of Finance and Planning said.

Issuing a statement, the ministry said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Ministry to reduce the existing Special Commodity Levy on imported dhal with the view of providing concessions to consumers.

“Therefore the Special Commodity Levy of Rs. 22 per kilo of imported dhal is reduced to Rs.5 by 17 rupees,” Ministry stated.

“The Special Commodity Levy on essential items would be revised by the Government from time to time in order to provide concession to consumers and the farmers,” it added.
