Students launch protest despite court order

Despite a restraining order issued by the Balangoda District Judge, the students of the Sabaragamuwa University today launched a protest march over the destruction of free education.

District Judge Lalith Kannangara yesterday issued the court order banning the protest march on a request made by the Balangoda Police so as to prevent a possible clash among various groups and to avoid causing a disturbance to the people.

Amid the presence of police personnel outside the University and on the Colombo-Badulla main road, students began their protest march from the university this morning ignoring the court order. (RM)
