SF defamation case: Granted leave to proceed

Mount Lavinia District Judge Gihan Chandraranawana today granted leave to proceed with the defamation case filed by Leader of the Democratic Party Sarath Fonseka against Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena demanding compensation of Rs.1billion.

Minister Gunawardena is alleged to have stated that the woman LTTE cadre carried out the suicide attack on Sarath Fonseka to take revenge from him for jilting her and not for the sake of the war, while participating in a political programme in a private TV channel.

The district judge issued notice on the respondent minister to appear in court on May 22. (Pix and news by Suranjith Perera)
