Royal Park murder; Death sentence affirmed

The appeal against the conviction of death sentence on Shramantha Jayamaha who was found guilty of murdering Yvonne Johannson at Royal Park in 2005 was rejected and the decision of the Court of Appeal was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court today.

The three judge bench headed by Justice Saleem Marsoof and comprised Justice Sathya Hettige and Justice S. Sripavan refused granting special leave against the conviction filed by Jayamaha.

Legal analysts said that this is the end of the legal proceedings of the case as there is no further recourse available to the Defendant. ( Hafeel Farisz)
