
With the deep depression that is overland and moving towards the Puttalam area very slowly, showery weather and windy conditions over Northern parts of the island will continue today, the Meteorological Department said.
Issuing the weather forecast for the coastal areas around the island for the next 24 hours, the Met Department said, under the influence of the system very strong winds, )about 70 Kmph) and heavy falls of about 100 mm are expected over, along and off the Northern coast and over Gulf of Mannar.
There will be intermittent showers over the sea area off the coast extending from Negombo to Batticaloa via Kankasanturai. Winds will be North-Easterly and speeds will be 30-50 Kmph.
The seas off the coast extending from Negombo to Batticaloa via Kankasanturai will be very rough and dangerous as the winds can be strengthening up to 70 Kmph at times.The other sea areas around the island may also be rough at times as the wind can be strengthening up to 60 kmph at times.
There will be intermittent showers in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Eastern Provinces. Showers at times will occur in the Western Province too.
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the afternoon and night, the Department said.
