Principal arrested over bribe

The Principal of the Matale Wijeya Vidyalaya and a security officer of the Matale main Post Office were arrested this evening for allegedly soliciting a Rs. 150,000 bribe from a woman to have her child admitted to the Grade 2 at the school.

The officials of Bribery Commission had arrested the security officer when he was obtaining the bribe from the woman and later arrested the principal for assisting the security officer upon information revealed by him. (Mahesh Keerthiratne)
