‘Mervyn misusing council letterheads’

Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera yesterday accused Minister Mervyn Silva and his supporters of misusing council letterheads to write to people asking them to attend a May Day rally.

At the monthly PS sessions Mr. Ranaweera said this act only showed the bankruptcy of Kelaniya SLFP organizer Mervyn Silva.

“He compares us to insects. But I like to remind him that these insects were capable of getting more than 100,000 votes for him at the last general election when at an earlier election he could only poll 2,000 votes.

Today he holds no place among the people of Kelaniya. Therefore, he has been compelled to use our letterheads and deceive the people. Vice Chairman Chamila’s home was attacked by Mr. Silva’s thugs. But so far no action has been taken against them. We are united and prepared to fight them,” Mr. Ranaweera said. (Lal S. Kumara)
