MEP to contest with the UPFA

Dinesh Gunawardena led Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) today announced that it would contest the forthcoming general elections along with the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) under the betel leaf symbol.

In a statement its General Secretary Thissa Yapa Jayawardana said the decision had been taken during the Central Committee meeting held yesterday with the participation of its Leader Dinesh Gunawardena.

It further said that they would represent their candidate covering the most of districts at the election.

MEP Central Committee also expressed its appreciation for the President Maithripala Sirisena for giving nomination to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest at the election on the UPFA ticket.
