Infant dies during circumcision

A three-month-old infant has died allegedly due to haphazard circumcision carried out at a medical centre in Maligawatte yesterday, police said.

The 47-year- old doctor, who carried out the circumcision without safety procedures, was arrested by the Maligawatte Police.

The parents of the victim Mohamed Hamdan, are residents of Meethotamulla in Wellampitiya. The suspect is to be produced before the Maligawatte magistrate today.
