Flood toll rises to 20

A total of 20 people have been killed as of today as a result of the floods experienced in many parts of the island over the last few days, an official at the Disaster Management Center told Daily Mirror online.

The most number of deaths have been reported from Gampaha.

Fifty nine IDP camps have already been set up in Gampaha and 23 in Colombo. Urgent assistance is being delivered to the camps and those displaced by the airforce and navy, the official said.

However the water levels are now receding although the current inclement weather is expected to continue in the next few days. (JN)
