Despite the lapse of over two years after the end of the war, some people in the former LTTE held areas are yet to acquaint themselves properly with the normal law of the country , and therefore, the authorities concerned continue to carry out awareness programmes, officials said today.

People in these are areas are mostly unaware of rules and regulations with regard to the activities such as sand mining, felling of trees and poaching animals.

Asked about these matters, District Secretary of Vavuniya Mrs. P.S.M. Charles told the Daily Mirror she, with the help of police, had taken steps to educate people about domestic violence and child abuse. Also, she said that people do not know much about traffic rules and regulations.

“We have to educate people about these matters,” Mrs. Charles said.

The government is planning to complete the resettlement drive before the end of this year. (Kelum Bandara)
