Update: Keheliya’s daughter, son-in-law granted bail; Another daughter remanded

Colombo, June 19 (Daily Mirror) – Former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella’s daughter and son-in-law, who were arrested by the Bribery Commission under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, were released on bail today. Another daughter, however, was remanded for failing to meet bail conditions.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayathunga granted bail to Chamithri Jananika Rambukwella, Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, and Isuru Pulasti Mese, with a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and three sureties of Rs. 5 million each. A travel ban was also imposed on all three.

Chamithri Jananika Rambukwella was remanded after failing to fulfill the bail conditions.

hey were produced before the court by the Bribery Commission on suspicion of maintaining bank accounts containing Rs. 1.3 billion, Rs. 40 million and Rs. 20.5 million respectively.

Additionally, two complaints regarding the alleged misuse of public funds by Keheliya Rambukwella during his tenure as Minister of Health and Mass Media, were taken up before court. It is alleged that he had appointed 15 close associates to his personal staff using state resources. Amali Nayanika Rambukwella was also named a suspect in one of these cases and was produced before court by the Bribery Commission. In this particular case, she was granted bail with a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each.

Also, former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife and another daughter were released from remand custody after fulfilling their relevant bail conditions.
