Two workers drown at Matale Water Treatment Plant

Two youths employed at the Matale Water Treatment Plant drowned in the Sudu Ganga yesterday (28), police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the workers fell into the river while attempting to retrieve a barrel caught in the plant’s net. 

The other youth reportedly jumped in to rescue his colleague but was also swept away by the current.

The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Chanaka Madushanka and 24-year-old Menuka Madushanka.
