Two die in shootout with police in Sooriyawewa

Two men were killed in a shootout between two robbers and the police in Sooriyawewa this evening, police said.

They said the two men came in a motorcycle, snatched a gold necklace of a woman and fled.

A team of policemen from the Sooriyawewa Police Station gave chase to nab the robbers in a police jeep following a tip off about the incident.

The robbers then opened fire at the police jeep and died when the policemen too fired at them as an act of retaliation.
