Tense situ at Kotikawatta over dumping of garbage

A tense situation prevailed in Kotikawatta this evening during a protest by residents against the dumping of garbage in the area.

Protesters burnt tyres and blocked the Old Avissawella Road. It was later called off after assurances given by the Police that a meeting would be held at Nagarukkaramaya tomorrow to discuss the dumping of garbage.

According to reports, the Police had stopped the dumping of garbage for the time being. (Waruna Wanniarachchi)
