June 21 (Daily Mirror) - India A opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name into the record books with the fastest half-century in List A cricket during the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday.
The 15-year-old reached his fifty in just 11 balls, surpassing the previous record of a 12-ball half-century set by Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne in 2005.
Opening the batting alongside Priyansh Arya, Sooryavanshi launched a brutal assault on the Sri Lanka A bowlers from the outset. His first 11 deliveries yielded five fours and five sixes as he raced to the milestone at a strike rate of over 450.
The youngster continued his attacking approach after reaching the landmark and eventually fell for 94 runs off 29 balls. His innings included 10 fours and eight sixes and gave India A a flying start in the tournament final.
Sooryavanshi narrowly missed out on a century but produced one of the most explosive innings seen in List A cricket. His knock came in the aftermath of a tense earlier meeting between the two sides during the tournament.
