Some 40,000 teacher vacancies in the country: Harini

Colombo, May 21 (Daily Mirror) - There are some 40,000 teacher vacancies in government schools across the country, Prime Minister and Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya said today.

She told Parliament that there are 4,240 vacancies in the primary section for the Sinhala medium (Grade 1 to 5) and 2,827 for the Tamil medium.

The Prime Minister said that from Grade 6 to 11, there are 11,274 vacancies for the Sinhala medium and 6,121 for the Tamil medium.

She said this in response to a question raised by SJB MP Mujibur Rahman.
