Singer Umariya released on bail, driving licence temporarily suspended

Popular singer Umaria Sinhawansa who was arrested by the Welikada Police on Saturday following an accident near the Rajagiriya flyover, had been released on bail today.

Umariya's vehicle collided with a three wheeler causing serious injuries to its 38-year old driver.

The driver of the three wheeler was admitted to Colombo National Hospital.

Umaria Sinhawansa was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage and was released on a surety bail of Rs. 500,000.

However, her driving licence was temporarily suspended.

Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered that she be released on Rs. 500,000 bail.

Defendant also agreed to pay a sympathetic compensation of Rs. 80,000 to the three-wheeler driver who was injured in the incident.
