Shashindra Rajapaksa remanded

Former Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa was today ordered to be remanded till August 19 by Colombo Cheif Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayathunga, after being arrested on charges of corruption and conspiracy.

The arrest was made over allegations that he used his official position to unlawfully secure compensation for an unauthorised property that was damaged during the 2022 public uprising. The compensation claim, which had initially been rejected, concerned property not legally entitled to such payment. 

The case is being investigated onto by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
