Schools alerted as Meningitis spreads across districts

Colombo, May 29 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued guidelines to all Provincial Directors of Education on preventive measures against the spread of Enterovirus Meningitis, following instructions from the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.

According to the circular, the virus has been reported in several districts, with children and individuals with weakened immune systems identified as the most at-risk groups. 

The first cases were detected in Deniyaya in the Matara District in April.

The Ministry said infections have now also been confirmed in Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, and Badulla districts.
