Central Province Governor says no response yet from President on resignation

Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror) - Central Province Governor Prof. Sarath Abeykoon says he has not yet received any response from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the letter informing him of his decision to resign from the post.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy today (17), Prof. Abeykoon said he had informed the President, at the time he accepted the appointment, that he intended to serve only for a short period before stepping down.

He said, however, that he had postponed his resignation due to the damage caused in the Central Province by the recent severe weather conditions associated with Cyclone Ditwah.

Prof. Abeykoon stressed that his decision to resign was based on a strictly personal reason and that no individual had influenced or pressured him to leave the post.

He further said that he had informed the President that his resignation would take effect from July 21.
