SLFP to keep its distance from Opposition: Amaraweera

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will not take any decision in support of the Opposition in the no-confidence motion against Minister Udaya Gammanpila, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

Addressing the media he said the SLFP has not discussed the matter extensively.

"Minister Gammanpila's decision to increase fuel prices was not his sole decision. It was a decision taken by the Cabinet and the President was also at the discussion," he said.

Therefore, that responsibility should not  Gammanpila's alone, he said.

"Everyone in the Cabinet was present at the time of the proposal. If so, the entire Cabinet should take responsibility for that decision.

Therefore, our position as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is to express our confidence in Minister Gammanpila in this no-confidence motion," he said.
