Sri Lanka is to launch a national program to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, Presidential Advisor on Climate Change Ruwan Wijewardene said today.

The decision to launch a national level program was made at a meeting which Wijewardene held with the Climate Threat Caucus and the officers attached to the Ministry of Environment.

Accordingly Sri Lanka is to seek international assistance to resolve whatever effects, sectors such as agriculture, irrigation and fisheries could experience as a result of climate change. The main objective is to minimize the effect of climate change in Sri Lanka and to prepare the island nation to face climate challenges, a statement from Wijewardene said.

The Climate Threat Caucus which comprises of 55 countries  is also expected to assist Sri Lanka soon.
It was  said that Sri Lanka’s development policies will also be shaped by considering climate challenges. (Yohan Perera)
