Expressing dismay over the sluggish investigations into the death of a teenage girl at former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen's residence, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today said Mr. Bathiudeen had committed a grave offence by employing an underage girl as domestic aide.

Former JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told a news conference that the investigations into the incident were going at a snail's pace.

He said if such an incident had occurred in a house of an ordinary citizen, the police would have acted swiftly and implemented the law.

"Police seem to be acting differently when it comes to VIPs. We are not satisfied at all with the ongoing investigations with regard to the death of this helpless teenage girl," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)
