Rajangane Saddharathana Thera arrested

Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) - Rajangane Saddharathana has been arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), police said.

Authorities stated that the arrest was made over allegations that the monk had threatened Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala and Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya through social media platforms.

Police further said investigations are continuing into the online statements that led to the arrest.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya Committee had reportedly taken steps last year to expel Rajangane Saddharathana from the Buddhist order following an internal inquiry. The decision was made after examining statements he had made on social media while operating a YouTube channel, officials said.
