Railway guard manhandled for asking youth to wear face masks

A railway guard came under physical assault by two young men after they were asked to wear face masks before boarding the train at the Dehiwala Railway Station yesterday, Police spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said the young men were attempting to board the train without wearing face masks and ignoring health guidelines.

"The train arrived at the Dehiwala railway station heading to Ragama from Wadduwa last evening. The railway guard advised the men to wear their face masks but they refused  and suddenly started attacking the guard," the spokesman said.

A police complaint was lodged at the Dehiwala police station and the men were arrested.

The suspects are to be produced in court today for an identification parade.
