Quadruplets of Covid-19 infected mother die at birth

Four stillborn babies, of a pregnant mother infected with Covid-19, have died during the delivery at the Ampara General Hospital.

The woman, a resident of Vijithapura in Ampara, had been receiving treatment at the Ampara Hospital for several days due to the Covid-19 infection while she was five months pregnant.

She was discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus, the Lankadeepa reported.

However, she was again admitted to the hospital due to a sudden illness and had given birth to the stillborn babies.

The mother had given birth to two boys and two girls and it is suspected that the babies may have died due to the COVID-19 infection, hospital sources said.(Ranjan Kasturi and Hingurane - Navaratne Samaratunga)
