Printing of ballot papers for LG elections begins

Colombo, March 23 (Daily Mirror) - The printing of ballot papers for the upcoming local government elections has commenced, the Election Commission announced today.

The elections are scheduled to take place on May 6, with nominations having been accepted in 25 districts from March 17 to 12 noon on March 20, according to Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake.

A total of 2,900 groups submitted nominations for 336 local government bodies, of which 2,260 were from political parties. 

However, nearly 425 nomination papers were rejected during the process.
