Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Restaurant Owners Association has announced a revision of food and beverage prices at eateries using LAUGFS Gas, citing rising operational costs driven by increased LPG prices.

Association Chairman Harshana Rukshan said the price of rice, biryani, and Nasi Goreng has been increased by Rs. 25, effective from last night (07), as many establishments struggle to absorb higher fuel expenses.

He noted that around 25%–30% of restaurants and small eateries using gas are under financial pressure due to escalating LPG costs, making the price adjustments unavoidable.

Accordingly, the price of a plain cup of tea has been increased by Rs. 5, while milk tea has gone up by Rs. 10 in gas-powered food outlets. Snack items have also seen a Rs. 5 increase. However, prices of egg roti and paratha have remained unchanged, Rukshan said.

The revisions come in the wake of a sharp increase in LAUGFS gas prices, with the cost of a 12.5 kg domestic cylinder rising by Rs. 545 to Rs. 6,245, crossing the Rs. 6,000 mark. The 5 kg cylinder has also been increased by Rs. 220 to Rs. 2,500, according to LAUGFS Gas.

The price adjustment follows broader fluctuations in global energy markets and ongoing exchange rate pressures impacting import costs.
