Presidential polls: Rohitha challenges Akila to resign if UPFA candidate wins

UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardana yesterday challenged UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to resign from parliament if the UPFA candidate wins the presidential election.

He said he would also bet his parliament membership.

“I will not ask you to bet your portfolio because when the UPFA candidate wins the presidential election, your ministerial post will be worthless,” he said.

Minister Kariyawasam is reported to have told a politburo meeting in the Nikaweratiya electorate yesterday he was 500 per cent confident of the UNP candidate being elected president at the next presidential election. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
