Presidential candidate Illiyas passes away

Colombo, August 23 (Daily Mirror) - Muhammad Illiyas, an independent candidate for the 2024 Presidential election, passed away at the Puttalam Hospital last night at the age of 78, following a sudden heart attack.

Illiyas was a Member of Parliament during the Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga government, elected to Parliament from the Jaffna district.

Mohammad Illiyas was hospitalized two days ago due to a sudden illness.

With his sudden death, the list of Presidential candidates is reduced to thirty-eight.
