'Praja Shakthi' rural poverty eradication drive begins today

Colombo, July 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Praja Shakthi National Programme, aimed at eradicating rural poverty and uplifting communities, will officially commence today under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Announcing the launch, Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Minister Dr. Upali Pannilage said the initiative has been designed to empower communities and promote fair and inclusive economic benefits through three core objectives.

As part of the programme, Community Development Councils will be established in all 14,000 Grama Niladhari Divisions across the country, creating grassroots-level platforms for community-led development.

Minister Pannilage further noted that the programme’s implementation and progress will be overseen by a National Policy Council, ensuring consistent guidance and effective monitoring.
